A Quick Trip To Hope and Back

Last weekend we headed out of town for a relaxing road trip down to Hope BC.  It was mom and dad's 18th Wedding Anniversary. Wow time goes fast!
The Royals were very happy to jump in the truck and snap on their seat belts. After a quick road stop for a Royal snack and meds we were back on the road.

I think we're here Lady May!
Thank goodness! 'cuz you keep stepping on me!
Dad booked us an over night stay at a motel with a fantastic park right across the street. It's difficult for the Royals to enjoy as much romping time these days due to their aging leg issues. Still they were able to thoroughly enjoy the new smells, sights and sounds around the park area.  There was a large playground full of happy children, which Lady May was not too pleased about but there were also some wonderful squirrel smells!
Yes, it rained over night and we were happy!
The Royals had a little rest after the journey

Lady May waited patiently for mommy to get her coat on.

I found the exit! Let's GO!

So off they went exploring all the wonderful smells. There were many dogs and lots of children. We stayed right by mom and dad. Lady May is NOT fond of children or strangers. ..but the smells.. oh those wonderful smells!

Heading in the opposite direction of the children!

The Princess kept her nose to the ground the entire time

Mom and Nan found the perfect shop right across the street from us!
I dunno what they bot but they sure smiled!

Aww, do we have to leave?
Before we knew it, time had passed and it was time to head home. We packed up and snapped back into our seat belts.  Mom has a favourite restaurant in Hope and dad made sure we stopped for a scrumptious lunch.  If you're ever looking for a great place to have a snack, its at The Owl Street Cafe.  ( 'cept their accommodations dont take dogs! I know, drat eh?)

A quick stop for lunch at the Owl Street Cafe.
YUMMY New smells yet again!
Back on the road homeward bound
...sigh... when can we go again?

Where Will My Dog Sleep at Royal K9 Korner?

We know that your furry sweetie may need an extra bit of love and attention when it's bedtime. His/her mom 'n dad are not around or they're used to having their children around at bedtime. It can be a worrisome time to be separated from their families at night.
We Know That.
We take those possibilities into account with each and every visitor, each and every time they visit. It's difficult for us to figure out what might be troubling your furry buddy. So, our goal is make sure, when they're here, they can fully rest and feel comfortable with a full belly, happy days thoughts and a good nights sleep.
It's an easy task really, food, attention, love and ample exercise/play or rest throughout the day.

Our home is a giant dog house! I know it can be silly sometimes how many dog mats I have scattered around. I encourage dogs to use those mats for nap rests during the day. Of course sometimes, their play results in a sudden energy crash and they fall asleep just where they are. Or it's just a paw, an ear, or a bum that's on that mat but ultimately they "get it" and the mats are in full use.

Lil Molly 'n River
Yup, time for a nap right now!
River - "My ear is touching the mat, therefore "I" am on a mat.

Tika loved to stretch and only have her toes on the mat.
RIP dearheart
River enjoys the morning sun.
Having so many mats through out the house provides opportunities to give rewards for mat use. That makes their bedtime requirement easier for them to understand. They have an assortment of places to choose from at night.
Lady May and Finnegan cuddle down for a day nap.
Maverick and Lady May catch a few winks after dinner
You were such a good boy dear Rookie
Rookie had problems using stairs so he always slept upstairs in a safe spot. Near his last visits we placed an x-pen around him for his security. RIP dear Master Rookie. This spot is always available for any future visitors who need such a security area.

Does your dog HAVE TO be on a mat when he/she visits? No! Of course not. We know full well how nice a hard cool floor feels on a hot summer day.   Our floors make great cool off places.

Lil Molly and Lady May enjoy the coolness of the tile on a hot day.

At bedtime the dogs decide where they want to sleep, whether its upstairs or down. The crate in our bedroom downstairs has an open door policy. However we will close the crate door if requested. Our bedroom also has a gated doorway so there is no possibility of wanderers during the night

Bentley's first sleep over. His mom preferred he sleep crated.
Finley prefers the open door policy
Some prefer the comfort of a good nights sleep with no distractions from a snoring mate.
In that case we have a large mat downstairs, better known as The Princess' Mat, and an open door crate in the adjoining room.
If any dog is quick enough to find this mat before
The Princess, she will allow it's use, but you have to be fast!

Other wise its the crate and another mat up for grabs.

The fireplace only gets put on in cold winter months
Abby preferred a bed to herself. When I wasn't fast enough putting my duvet
on my bed, she would treat herself to an extra helping of Royalty.

Dax 'n Andre always shared a sleeping space
in a secure gated location beside my bed.
We have ample shady areas for every dog during the hot summer days.  Day beds seem to be picked many times, over the cool grass.

to catch a few winks alone. Maverick decided otherwise.

Muffin relaxin' in The Trolley. A day use bed in the gazebo area

Muffin tucked in the bedroom crate for a quiet sleep.

Mylu checking out an open day crate in the gazebo area

Mylu's special bed
Mylu will initially choose a crate to sleep in at night. I discourage that choice and have her choose the bed beside me instead. She is prone to seizures and needs to have a safe spot in that event. It would be difficult to monitor or medicate her if she was lodged in a crate or slipped under the bed. There fore the mat she sleeps on is double the height and placed right beside me where I can easily touch her throughout the night. Yes, she gets that little bit of extra Royal treatment. She is so deserving.

Finley knows this bed is dog friendly and heads straight for it when ever he visits. I will invite dogs onto a special bed for them to use. They respect the sleeping arrangements and always wait for the invitation before jumping up.
This bed is dog friendly and Finley knows it.
Well they almost always wait. We all know dogs who will try to use the furniture if no one is watching.
This couch is NOT dog friendly and Lady May is telling on Finley
Dog will be dogs and dogs love to sneak on beds. Do we freak out and hollar?
NO WAY!
We gently coax them off and offer a different sleeping area. They always comply!

We can't wait to meet your sweetie and have him/her join us for an over night visit.

Squire Seven and Master Rookie have Crossed Over Rainbow Bridge

We, at Royal K9 Korner, are so sad.  We are grieving the loss of two of our Royal extended pack. Our dear beloved little Squire Seven and our Royal Master Rookie.

I have sat down to write this for a while now. It's been very hard to complete it. Seven was my first grandchild whether he had fur or not. I will always cherish having him in my heart. I will miss you so much my dear little one. The angels decided it was time to take him for a walk over Rainbow Bridge on June 29th.
Rest in Peace and RUN FREE old man!!
Seven was 14 years old and lived a very active and wonderful life with his best buddy and partner, his Mommy, Kathi!  Seven had just fully recovered from a serious leg injury due to his age and had bounced back to his full happy self. He was beginning to loose his sight and his hearing was not so good. It was evident the angels had been watching him and it wouldn't be long before they needed him with them.
The day before his passing, Seven and his mommy were out for their daily stroll. Seven was intrigued by the lovely stump he found and kept running back to it. His mom noted the spot but had no way of knowing that the very next day, sadly, Seven would pass over the bridge with the angels. Seven is now reunited with the other Royals who have passed before him. He rests in the hollow of the log he chose. His mommy engraved a lovely plaque for him in his memory. It reads:
SEVEN: MY SWEETEST PEA
The Angels have waited,
Now they have their way,
TAKE YOUR PLACE
May 11 2005 - June 29 2019

Seven learned so much in his life and was always eager to please. He was extremely social with everyone.
His mommy spent hours and hours and days, months and years helping Seven understand life in the world. How to be safe and have fun, he learned so much and went on many adventures we only dream of.  He was a whiz on a skateboard and loved to play basketball, soccer, and tug. He was the proverbial big dog in a little dogs body.  He absolutely loved to play with the big dogs!

He is sadly missed and will live on in our hearts forever more.

Our sorrow of losing Seven was followed 2 weeks later on July 15th. Just 2 days after Rookie's 11th birthday, the Angels called him for his final walk as well.  His mommy, Melissa had been wrestling to keep Rookie's health at an even keel for many months.  Rookie lived with Lupus and was continually struggling to over come it's symptoms. Although he seemed to have it under full control, he also suffered a leg injury and was recovering from that.  However, his health started to fail during last winter and his recoveries were never back up to par.  His mommy adopted Rookie many years ago and he has enjoyed those years to the fullest. He was certainly well loved and cared for! He lived across the street from us so we had the pleasure of seeing him on a daily basis.  He loved to run the fenceline and bark at all the BIG trucks and machines that might come past.  He was ever vigil to protect his family from any mechanical intruder!  If they stopped he always had a wag in his tail and lolling tongue to greet them!
Rookie was one of the few males that was fully accepted during our benevolent leader, King's Rule. He took his place as our senior male after King's passing and enjoyed a day visit just to see his "girls".
Sometimes, I tend to see things that happen as symbolic or with a spiritual twist and so it was on the day Rookie passed. Only hours after he passed, our sky clouded over with soft billowy grey clouds and a soft Rainbow could just barely be made out with in them. I couldn't help but believe in my heart somehow Rainbow bridge was appearing to allow our Royal angels to greet the new comers Squire Seven and Master Rookie into their waiting playground.

We know for sure they'll be greeted warmly as they reach the Royal Realm over Rainbow Bridge.
Rest in peace and play forever more in the very best of health boys! You were SUCH GOOD dogs. You are already sorrowfully missed!  Until we meet again one day.

"You have gone ahead,
 And nothing is the same,
Leaving paw prints on our hearts,
That always will remain"
RIP
