Miss Sadie's Visit with Khione

A couple of days ago Khione's mom called to see if Khione was able to visit for the day. Suzy Q was the only dog booked that day. I already knew there wouldn't be much playtime for Khione with just Lady May and Suzy. I decided to call Sadie's mom to see if she would let Sadie visit for the day.
Thank you so much Melissa! 4 year old Sadie was an excellent girl and really played well with Khione.
Khione - "Wow I didn't know you came to Royal K9 Korner day care too! COOL! Lets play"

I knew they had already met and enjoyed each other on their day walks. It was a pretty safe bet they'd do well for a day together here. Khione was definitely over the moon to see Miss Sadie. Sure enough they had a great time together and Miss Sadie was a perfect playmate for Khione.

Sadie has a confident and friendly personality, she doesn't get bowled over and can easily handle a bit of rough stuff play. Khione is still learning to listen to the dogs she's playing with and Sadie is a clear and patient communicator. She really made my day go smooth.
They played inside and out, with toys or without toys. They also took rest times together and just chilled in the yard and house all day.
I'm hopeful we can set up a few more play days with other visitors so Khione has a chance to get to know everyone one on one. I'm sure it'll help build her confidence and make her a fun playmate for the others. She is still puppy-like, full of energy and really just wants to play!
Thank you Sadie for giving young Khione a fun day!

Sadie - "No prob, I like the new kid and she's a fun buddy. I hope she visits again soon."

By the time little Suzy Q arrived, Khione had already spent her excess energy with Sadie. She was more willing to leave Suzy alone. Suzy was very happy about that.

Suzy Q - "I'm staying close to Sadie, just in case though. "

After a good romp in the yard, we headed under the gazebo for some relax time. Sadie found the Trolley cart before Lady May could get to it.Lady May just curled up beside it. Im thinking she was hopeful Sadie would leave and she could sneak in.

Khione not quite ready for rest time.

I think its time for me to get out the warm quilts and make up the outdoor beds. One outside bed is just not enough now. The weather is still unpredictable but the dogs are wanting to be outdoors longer.  With my hard top gazebo cover, its possible even on wet days now.
Sure enough something caught Sadie's attention and she strayed from the warm bed.  Unfortunately, Lady May was fast asleep and missed her opportunity.

Suzy Q - "Thanks for keeping it warm Sadie"

Back indoors, Khione and Sadie played much calmer together. Even Suzy was feeling a bit more relaxed with Khione. Although she seemed to make a point of staying close to Sadie and Lady May for added security.

Suzy Q heads back to her old faithful safety buddy.
Lady May is always a sure bet when Sadie goes to sleep.

A rare resting pair.

I just happen to have my camera in my hand when I saw this sight. It's a first for sure. Sadie and Lady May are always very compatible, but I'd never, ever seen them stick this close together for a rest. If only we could read their minds.

"Im sure I heard the clock toll Lunchtime!

As the clock struck lunch time the two visitors knew exactly where to watch their food being dished out. Neither one tried to sneak into my safety area but politely waited just outside the gate.
Wow! Good Dogs or what?!

Sadie-"I saw my mom! How come I'm here?"

Sadie used to try to head for the gate when ever she visited. Now she will certainly try to head home if she sees her mom across the street but is very, very good about complying and heading into the back yard. I can easily distract her now. She rarely stands staring at her house across the road now. I think she seems happy when she's here. I really have to set up my camera to video how she runs full bore into the yard when a visit is scheduled.  There's a soft warm bed and food for her belly. The buddies and the toys hep the comfort level. I'm sure she likes it here enough. She knows mom is coming for her soon. I'm so thankful her mom let her visit us today. I definitely feel like she's helped Khione in a big way.

Khione may be the "New Kid" but she seems to be fitting in nicely. There are a few more buddies for her to meet. We'll continue going slow so we don't take a big step backwards.
I'm happy she has a friend like Sadie here now.

Sleep time before home time. Khione chooses to lay close to her new buddy Sadie.

Khione decides to move closer to the gate in case mom shows up before she wakes.

We hope to see you both soon girls. You're a wonderful pair.💜🐾💜

FYI
Royal K9 Korner has a few days we'll be closed to visitors.
Please mark them on your calendar for reference.

January is Walking Out The Door

We're into the last week of Jan and the month of February is starting to fill up.  Our visitors haven't flooded us but they've been steady.  We've welcomed Khione and completed a Meet 'n Greet with a new boy, Cash. We've had contact from Lupin's mom and she's eager for Lupin's spay so she can visit soon.
Our 12 yr old Marchioness lil Molly has been going through a few health issues but is back on her feet and happy to visit. So good to see you feeling better dear lil Molly.

Marchioness lil Molly - " It's ball time now, right?!"
We hadn’t seen our Countess River since last May, so when she visited we were over the moon! It was well over due! She spent a day meeting Khione and even had a sleep over.
Welcome Back sweet Countess!

Countess River - " Wow, you have NEW TOYS~ I love them!"

River used her meeting with Miss Khione as an opportunity to show, she holds a position in our realm. River is a no longer the young new comer. She is a 4 year old now and is letting the young ones know, she has some rank and is asking to be respected.
Sharing toys does not come easy for River, but she definitely shows patience when she's pestered. She's turning into a great teacher. Well done Countess River.
Miss Hazel and lil Suzy Q were also here when River visited. River had a great opportunity to ask for respect. Even if it mostly went by the wayside with them.
Polite trying though Countess.

Countess River - "You have to listen to me, Ok? Cuz I'm a Countess"
Miss Hazel - "Ya, ok. Whatever"

Miss Suzy Q - "This is my Grandpa and he says I come first before you.
Countess River - "Well, okay but I get to choose the toys first ok?"

Searching through the toys for River can be a difficult decision. There are quite a few new ones to choose from.  A few older ones were thrown out during her absence and choosing a new best toy can take some time. Hazel finds a toy much quicker and sits patiently waiting for River to make her choice. She's so funny!
Sometimes a good game of hide 'n seek and chase are way better than toys!
These two are great for that game!

When they play indoors, River will hold onto a toy to keep it safe. If someone pesters her to share it, she politely ignores them. Sometimes she'll take it into a crate so there's less chance of someone pestering her. Hazel is very persistent, but patiently waits for River to indicate she's done with the toy before she takes it. If it takes to long for River to relinquish a toy, Hazel simply heads off to find another one that's just as good!  Nice manners on both parts.
It's funny to see the reverse happen, when River wants a toy that's already in someones possession.  She's very clever at the waiting game, even with a persistent Miss Hazel trying her best to evoke some play.
Hazel - "Awww come on River, please play with me."
River - "If  you walk away I might."
She will indeed claim it. Sneaky little girl Riv. Pretty sneaky lol
When inside toy time begins to bore, it's time to head outdoors for a game of Hazel's favourite game of chase 'n tug.  It's a great way to practise their sharing and gives an opportunity to release any extra energy. Go girls go!

When River and her mom came to meet with Khione, she really only wanted to focus on finding a spot to bury her new found little toy.  Khione tried very hard to entice her into a good game of chase. River was far too focused on one of the new little squeaky toys. Although she did run and play a wee bit, it was mostly a game of keep away. She wanted no part of Khione at all. The new toy was just too delicious to share and had to be buried.

Keep trying Khione. You're going to find the right play partner soon. We know it'll happen one day. We're just being patient while the others get to know the "new kid" and allow her into their fold with open paws. Khione's mom is hopeful she can schedule weekly visits for her. We're sure it'll mesh with a playmate soon.

In the meantime she's learning that not all playtime is zoom and go crazy time. Sometimes just chillin' in the house or yard is okay too. Lady May and little Miss Suzy Q are doing a great job teaching her that just walking around checking things out is cool too. They're still keeping a distance during playtime, but they are definitely allowing her closer.
You're a delightful little girl Khione and we're very happy you're joining our extended pack!

Rest well sweet Khione, your mom will be here for you soon.
Cash came for a Meet 'n Greet! He's a very layed back, good boy. We're excited!
His previsit is scheduled for Feb 3rd. He'll be meeting with Miss Hazel that day.
We cant wait!

Welcome To Our Pack Sweet Khione!

This week we had an opportunity to have 2 yr old, Husky cross, Khione spend a day with us. She had her spay back in Oct. She's now ready to spend some time doing some socializing with us.
This was a very first time for Khione's to left in daycare. She has a big brother at home and is still developing relationships with other dogs she meets on her walks.  We are very happy to welcome her to our extended pack!

Just like any newcomer she was a bit reluctant to have her mommy leave her at the gate. As per the norm, we spent some time walking around, getting familiar with the yard. It didn't take very long for Khione to find just the right toy to hold her interest. The homemade sock-ball toy with the squeaky that has long since been 'deactivated'. She enjoyed throwing it around and carried it with her while we checked things out.

Welcome pretty little Khione. (pronounced Key-O'-knee)

Soon it was time to head indoors and get reacquainted with Lady May. Khione took a step back when we reached the doorway and decided she was just too shy to enter. That was fine, we sat at the entrance way with the door open for a few minutes. She popped her head in the doorway and took in a few good sniffs of the house smells. Before you know it, she was comfortable enough and in we went to meet with Lady May.
They were quite nonchalant in meeting, as if they remembered meeting each other way back in Oct. Lady May really showed very little interest in her at all.  We stayed indoors for a little toy time then headed out to check the yard again before lil Miss Suzy Q arrived.

Khione stayed ever watchful in case her mom decided to show up

Khione tried to coax Lady May into a bit of play time a few times. Lady May was more interested in some quiet time, or she was just to busy being to sophisticated to indulge. That was fine by Khione, she entertained herself with her new found sock toy and kept her ears open for interesting different sounds.

When Suzy Q arrived, Khione tried several attempts to get her to play with her. Little playful bounces and polite bows had no effect on either Suzy nor Lady May. They were not ready to be coerced into play. Thanks girls, that meant Khione and I had an opportunity to play together. She's a fun loving sweetie with loads of energy.
It was obvious she would really rather a dog to play with. I was only an adequate playmate. I know in time Khione will get to meet so many others. Her mom is hopeful for weekly visits with Khione and then she'll find that perfect playmate for zoomes.

Khione - "Hey, wanna do some zoomies with me?" Suzy Q - " Umm, no thanks. Im busy"

Suzy Q - "Quit following me. I doan wanna play"
Khione - "Im not following you. I was just checking this spot out!"

Khione - "Hey, are we allowed to go over there?"
Lady May - "Not without your lead on you're not. "

Lady May stands guard and shows Khione where the mice sleep over the winter.

Very polite Khione, giving Suzy time and space in the hope she will decide to play.

Khione - "Are you ready to play yet?"
Lady May - "She's not gonna let up is she?"

Lady May and Suzy show Khione they are still bonding and not quite ready to play yet.

Indoors Suzy Q and Lady May play off to the side from Khione.

Khione rests and waits patiently for her mommy to return.
I'm looking forward to seeing how relationships develop for young Khione as she visits us more often.
She is a gentle and playful little girl. I know there are other visitors who will give her the kind of attention and play she is asking for. It's just certainly not coming from Lady May and Suzy Q right now.

I will be super excited to post the day I see her doing zoomies with others.
She certainly is a patient and polite sweetie.

Just before dinner her mommy returned for her. It was too dark to video or take any pictures of course. Suffice it to say she was OVER THE MOON!

Be sure to follow us on Facebook to see how Khione's social activities develop!

Khione - "It's kinda boring here. When is my mom coming home!

Good Night 2020 - Good Morning 2021

So, that was it! It's done. We've seen the last days of the year 2020!
A sigh of relief or a deep breath as we awaken 2021?
When we stepped into Jan 2020, there was no forewarning of the possible adversity in store for us.
(or was there)
We began the year with wide opened gates for a full calendar of visitors.  We saw lil Molly, Hazel, Bentley, Maverick and Sadie, Mylu, River and Curly. We welcomed a few new comers Suzy Q, Macy, Khione, Lupin and Cedar. We said farewell to The Bernies as they moved to another town. They are already missed by their playmates. We said a huge farewell to our darling Matriarch as she crossed over Rainbow Bridge. Our hearts still ache for you Princess MollyDawg.
Happy New Year to all those furry angels watching over us! 🌈🐾💜

January 2020 gave us well below -0 temps and blowing cold winds. Our trips to Kamloops were cautious and we were happy we brought our winter coats. This years temps are mild and warm enough to be almost enjoyable

The Royals enjoying a bit of Jan. 2020 Winter in Kamloops

February 2020 gave us reason to celebrate the rising mild temps and the absence of snow. The dogs were all happy to play outdoors without coats. We were able to clear out our flower beds to let the Spring growth come through. I refuse to talk about The Big Scare that hit us in the Spring of 2020.
You all know its out there, and we're going to stay pawsitive on it's control.
I was so happy with how our yard flourished last year. I sure hope we are that fortunate this year.
I'll be doing my plant count soon to start making plans to fill my planters again this year.
Yep, Pawsitive thinking!

Curly, lil Molly and Suzy Q enjoy a warm morning in February 2020.

We had a few newcomers and will be looking forward to seeing them again this year.
Welcome Cedar, Macy and Khione. We can't wait for your visits again this year.

Welcome to our 2020 newcomers. Cedar, Macy and Khione
We look forward to a fun filled summer!
We have another little newcomer who is sitting on the sidelines waiting for her spay to be completed, much like Khione is, before she visits us.
We'll be welcoming little Lupin this year.
Mylu and Lupin are buddies and we had the privilege of meeting up with her when we saw Mylu at her house over Christmas. We hope to look forward to her visits soon this year.

Lupin was spending a day with Mylu's mom and dad. It was so nice to see them all.

The fresh Spring of 2020 quickly turned to a wonderful hot summer. We had a fabulous year for flowers and a dry yard full of green grass. The dogs played outdoors for most of the days and kept us laughing with their fun.  My hose helpers made sure everything stayed good and wet. Including them.
Oh good grief, they kept me in stitches!

Bentley and Hazel 2020 Hose helpers extraordinaire!
We upgraded to a bigger small pool last year. The little green one just wasn't cutting it any longer and it seems like our dogs are getting a bit bigger now.

Sadie and Lady May sharing pool time while the others are busy.

River gets her paws wet while lil Molly decides if the water temp is warm enough.
On those almost rare occasions of wet weather last year we stayed indoors and developed wonderful relationships. The toy box was never empty and the tug toys, squeakies and stuffys had a great work out. I've purchased new toys for this year and they're all just waiting to be chewed, tugged and squeaked!
Maverick and Sadie turned out to be such an awesome pair. Two super happy and contented buddies.
It was easy to watch these two. I cant wait to see them together again.

Happy Sadie gathers up some toys to have close by when she wakes.
We are already swinging into the New Year. We are holding onto all the Pawsitive thoughts we can muster. We've started fresh and with out fear.
Will we keep in mind our Social Distancing and safe policies until we are given the Go Ahead!?
You bet we will!
2021 We're ready for you. Bring it on!
We hope you'll join us on Facebook - RK9KornerDaycare !
